Fire Procedures
Reporting a Fire - In the event of a fire, notify the Fire Department and the Management Office, if possible. Inform others in your area. Evacuate the building if necessary. It is important to ensure detailed maps outlining all emergency exit routes as well as the emergency meeting place are posted in high traffic areas. These maps must also detail a secondary meeting place in case the primary meeting place becomes unsafe.
Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers are located in cabinets in the hallways throughout the building. It is the responsibility of the tenant to recharge the fire extinguishers in your suite annually.
Fire Safety
Don’t Panic - Remain calm, and listen to any instructions given by emergency personnel.
Don’t Open Hot Doors - Before opening any door, touch it near the top to check if it is hot. A fire on the other side will blast through the slightest opening with tremendous heat and force. Use another exit.
Don’t Break Windows to Vent - Falling glass is a serious threat to pedestrians and emergency personnel below.
Don’t Use Elevators - Elevators can become stuck if the building should lose power.
Don’t Be a Spectator - Move away from the problem area. Follow any instructions of emergency personnel.
Don’t Leave Doors Open - The integrity of fire in corridors and stairwells will be compromised if doors are propped open.
Do Not Go Back - Do not go back for personal belongings if ordered to evacuate.
Stairwells - If an evacuation has been ordered, exit through the stairwells in single file.
